Yesterday, a 7.1 earthquake affected central Mexico killing more than 200 people so far. It is the second earthquake that occurs in the city in less than two weeks. This kind of phenomenons make us ask ourselves: Where is God at these moments? Why does He allow such catastrophe and pain? Images and videos that we have seen in TV and social platforms are just heartbreaking. However, there is something positive among all this negative outcome: We can notice that there is so much solidarity left in Mexico and this world!
There are so many volunteers that have been helping rescuers find people that are still alive in the rubbles. In the streets of Mexico City, thousands and thousands of people have gathered to assist rescuers. Their main function is to provide supplies like water, food, and first-aid kits. Several people slept yesterday in streets to keep helping. The unity and solidarity that people have shown is the perfect example to follow for the world. As a 21-year-old Mexican student that was volunteering told NY Times: "It is very characteristic of the Mexican people: We stand together." If you are Mexican and you are reading this, feel proud of your people and your country. Not all countries, especially mine, can say that their people easily stay together in difficult times.

I have some relatives living in Mexico City. They also have been helping those that have been very affected by the earthquake. Today, they visited different places that have been enabled to receive donations. Even colleges have been set-up to make it easier and more convenient for people to give whatever they wanted. Some of my other relatives (who are of course from Venezuela also) living in the city went to a college called Universidad Anáhuac to leave supplies for the rescuers and the injured. No matter where you are from or what language or accent you speak with, these days are all about making Mexico smile again.

Internationally, different presidents from the continent like Donald Trump, Pedro Kuczynski (Peru), and Sanchez Ceren (El Salvador), among others, have offered their assistance. Chile has sent a group of rescuers that are experts in natural disasters! Isn't that amazing? Even singer Jennifer Lopez and soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo have expressed their sympathy for Mexico. This is a great proof that people still care about others' pain. Knowing that most of the world feels the same way about Mexico's tragedy is great news. Despite the tough circumstances, people are not alone. Mexico is not alone and will not be alone. Neither Mexico, nor other nation.
Mexico, you still have many reasons to smile. Human kindness and humanity itself will help you get out of this. We still have a good world. What a time to be alive!
